The National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare has begun working with communities throughout the nation, including Rushford to implement Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) to arm the public with skills to help individuals who are developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. MHFA training certification course teaches a five-step action plan to assess a situation, select and implement interventions and secure appropriate care for the individual. MHFA introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews common treatments. MHFA is currently available in the Meriden and Wallingford community to school personnel, first responders and hospital staff. Please contact Sheryl Sprague, MHFA Trainer to learn more about the training opportunities at 203-630-5357 or sspragu@rushford.org
